Contrast material-enhanced myocardial perfusion imaging by using cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging has, during the past decade, evolved into an accurate technique for diagnosing coronary artery disease, with excellent prognostic value. Cardiac perfusion studies with MR rely primarily on the use of T1-weighted techniques, while for brain perfusion it is more common to use T2*-weighted techniques. The reason lies in the difference in the distribution of the volume of gadolinium chelates, which normally cannot cross the blood-brain barrier, and the higher vascular volume in the heart compared with the brain.

MRI perfusion images appear to show promise in distinguishing treatment-related changes from recurrent tumours. When both rK(trans) and riAUC show concordant values, DCE MRI seems to be more powerful than DSC MRI in the differentiation of recurrence from treatment-related changes.

Bolus injection of the gadolinium-based contrast agent should start after about a 20 second delay (range 5–30 seconds) from the start of the DSC MR perfusion sequence. Perfusion analysis was performed with the Philips Neuro Perfusion package (Philips Extended MR Workspace R184.108.40.206). Based on DSA data, regions-of-interest (ROIs) were uniformly drawn on pre-operative CCA perfusion images representing ECA dural, ICA dural, and pial supplies. Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast-Enhanced MR Perfusion DSC MR perfusion, also known as bolus-tracking MRI or perfusion-weighted imag-ing, is a technique in which the first pass of a bolus of gadolinium-based contrast agent through brain tissue is monitored by a series of T2- or T2*-weighted MR images. Efter att en tumör i hjärnan har opererats bort behövs en behandling som dels är så effektiv att eventuella tumörrester helt avlägsnas, samtidigt som den inte skadar den omkringliggande hjärnvävnaden.
MR spectroscopy, similar to NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) technology used in chemistry labs, enables separation of metabolite peaks within a tissue sample. MR perfusion imaging refers to several recently developed techniques used to non-invasively measure cerebral perfusion via assessment of various hemodynamic measurements such as cerebral blood volume, cerebral blood flow, and mean transit time.

There are three techniques in wide use to derive one or more perfusion values: techniques dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MR perfusion; dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MR perfusion Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MR perfusion, sometimes also referred to as permeability MRI, is one of the main MRI perfusion techniques which calculates perfusion parameters by evaluating T1 shortening induced by a gadolinium-based contrast bolus passing through tissue. The most commonly calculated parameter is k-trans . Arterial spin labeling (ASL) MR perfusion is an MR perfusion technique which does not require intravenous administration of contrast (unlike DSC perfusion and DCE perfusion ). Instead it exploits the ability of MRI to magnetically label arterial blood below the imaging slab. The parameter most commonly derived is cerebral blood flow (CBF) . MR perfusion imaging refers to several recently developed techniques used to non-invasively measure cerebral perfusion via assessment of various hemodynamic measurements such as cerebral blood volume, cerebral blood flow, and mean transit time. Dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) MR perfusion is one of the most frequently used techniques for MRI perfusion, and relies on the susceptibility induced signal loss on T2*-weighted sequences which results from a bolus of gadolinium-based contrast passing through a capillary bed.
